Milwaukee Lithium-Ion Battery
Milwaukee is the leader in lithium-ion technology, launching the first Li-Ion System in 2005 and the first backward compatible Li-Ion in 2006. Perfecting the formula in 2008, Milwaukee's lithium-ion batteries are 65% lighter, 50% smaller and store more than 30% more power than "compact" NiCd batteries. They also feature a fuel gauge that lets you know when to recharge, making it faster and easier to scope projects and decrease downtime.

To combat on-site problems like bent/broken terminals, damaged clips and broken welds caused by use and abuse, Milwaukee lithium-ion batteries are equipped with recessed terminals, slide pack dual clips and over-molded housing, and integrated welded frame and cell separators.

5 out of 5 stars Great Driver   July 25, 2010

This drill did everything we asked it to, and it even came with two batteries.

1 out of 5 stars MADE IN CHINA   July 24, 2010

When I pay a premium for a Milwaukee product, I expect it to be solid, sturdy and made in North America. I *don't* expect it to have cost less than $5 to have been manufactured in *CHINA*. Extremely disappointed, Milwaukee should do better than this, same quality of manufacture as a $20 Black and Decker.

5 out of 5 stars Fantasticly Useful, Excellent Quality Tool!   July 14, 2010

I got this little beauty from the Home Depot when it was on sale for the same price; that was well over a year ago so I'm guessing the price might come down a little some time soon.
It has great torque. I'm a maintenance-man at a local water park and I have contemplated taking it to my work for daily use. I say contemplated b/c there is already a small drill/driver provided for me there by the company. The one provided is a 12v LiIon Rigid 2 speed with a 3/8" chuck. Having used both tools on a daily basis, it is clear that my Milwaukee wins hands down. It is a torque monster compared to the Rigid. Every day I use the Rigid drill/driver at work I curse it for it's lack of power, "This thing just has no ass!" However, I don't want to bring my nice Milwaukee to work where the other boneheads I work with might get a hold of it.
I haven't run into anything yet that the Milwaukee has failed to to. Obviously I'm not going to use it for masonry drilling or anything like that. But it does drill nicely in addition to being and excellent driver. I have a set of drill bits, up to 3/8", with hex shafts and it handles them well without struggling.
This tool really shines as a driver. I was most impressed when using it for the first time, helping to frame out a deck with screened porch. I wasn't expecting much and thought I'd soon be switching back over to my big drill. But it really surprised me! It was turning in these 3" Primeguards with out any trouble! And it did it over and over again for about 20 minutes too before the battery died. This wasn't a problem as the LiIon batteries charge so fast, there wasn't ever a gap in usage. I drove screws nearly all day with the same results. I'm very please with how it performs.
It's construction is quality through and through. That's all I can say. You can FEEL it. It has the same classic Milwaukee feel as their more expensive tools, it's just solid. If I ever have a problem I'll update this review right away; to date it has worked flawlessly.
The only drawback I can see is that I didn't have the opportunity to buy the drill/driver and impact driver combo! The bare bones impact driver is on my wish list right now.

4 out of 5 stars compact driver   July 6, 2010

THE BEST PRICE I FOUND WAS ON AMAZON AND IT ARRIVED IN SEVERAL DAYS FROM ORDER. THIS DRIVER WORKS VERY WELL AT DRIVING SCREWS AND ANY OTHER DEVICES. THE BITS LOCK IN AND RELEASE WITHOUT FAIL, IT IS VERY ERGONOMIC AND LIGHT IN MY HAND. THE ONE FAULT I HAVE WITH IT IS THE BATTERIES DO NOT RELEASE WITH OUT GREAT EFFORT.

I am a general contractor and have been in the construction industry for more than 37 years. I own, and have owned and used tens-of-thousands of dollars worth of tools and been around long enough to have been a carpenter when cordless tools and chop saws did not exist. I own heavy-duty 18v hammer-drill that has been my single-purpose drill and screw gun and it serves me very well, but for about 90% of what I do (I use my tools almost entirely at home at this point), a smaller tool is more than adequate - but, were I still working as a carpenter I'd definitely want this tool with me at all times. I did not try out any other tools before I purchased this one and, I suppose there could be a better one for the money, but I doubt it - it is very light, but feels and looks well-made; it feels great in my hand and has no 'battery bulb' on the handle which is a real plus; it is incredibly quiet and it fooled me with the amount of power it has. There are many torque settings and the clutch seems very sensitive to its setting. Oh, and the 'headlight' may be unnecessary but I'm already wondering how I lived without one for so long - and to think I used to hang doors with a Yankee screwdriver (a muscle-powered, spiral shaft tool for you youngsters). No, I would not build a deck with it, but it will drive a 3" screw without protest. Even the case is decent, especially considering the price, which was $100 through good-old-no-tax-no-shipping-cost Amazon. Now that I have it I'd pay half-again as much for this tool, and for $100 it's a steal.
