4 out of 5 stars TRE550 works fine   July 2, 2010
Alan McCoy (Spokane, WA USA)
I don't believe the folks who complain about this gun are using it properly. It can easily drive 3/8" staples all the way into hard rock maple with one handed pressure. You want pictures, I've got pictures. It won't bury the staples like an air stapler will, but then again it is not designed to do that in maple or other dense woods. All hand and electric staplers of this design type need some pressure at the point of insertion to work as intended. As to longevity, the jury is still out for me. If I were a professional using this every day, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place because it is not intended for constant professional use. But it does work as it is designed to work- it will easily bury 10mm staples into pine, fir, poplar and the like with one-handed pressure.

1 out of 5 stars good for building balsa projects   May 17, 2010

I bought this for putting screen on a porch - Using the HIGH power setting it could only manage about 1/4" insertion into pine. Because of the remote situation I had to use it regardless to get the staple started and and then used a hammer to drive the staples. Brutal and ineffective. Ray

The stapler was easy to use. it worked well.
Would have been better if a selection of staples, brads were incluede.

1 out of 5 stars Great staple gun! But bad quality. Aircraft Aluminum will not hold up!   January 2, 2010

The Stanley TRE550 work good for the job I was using it for. I was using the electric staple gun for stapling plastic to windows frames. It worked great, but after 500 to 1000 staples the Aircraft Aluminum broke out on the bottom of staple gun below the metal staple slide. I was driving 5/16 staples into oak window frames. I think that the flexing of the metal staple slide, against the Aluminum frame when stapling 5/16 staples caused the bottom to completely brake out. I thought that this mite be a fluke and returned the stapler for a new Stanley TRE550, because I liked the way it handled plus the safety of the stapler. The stapler broke the same way as the first! Within 500 staples. I returned it for my money. I bought a Arrow FTFX50. Because the bottom staple side was made of metal.
