I recently decided to try my hand at woodworking for fun, and read that a router is a very handy tool to have in your shop. Knowing nothing about routers, I spent days doing research and reading reviews to help me make a decision on what to buy. For some reason, this router kit kept coming to the top of my list, and when I found it on sale at Amazon, that pushed me over the edge and I bought it. After a few months of practice with this router, I think I made a wise choice. Like all beginning woodworkers, I made some firewood in the beginning, but with a little practice and patience, I am now very confident in my ability with this router. I attached the fixed base to a router table, and use the plunge base for hand routing. I am just starting out trying some inlay work using the plunge base, and after a couple "oops" on scrap wood, I am ready to tackle my first inlay project with some good wood. At first the plunge base seemed a little stiff and jerky, but with use it has gotten very smooth. I don't think you can go wrong with this kit even though I really have nothing to compare it to.

I bought this router kit as an upgrade to a Black & Decker 1 HP router from around 1990. The B&D router worked... but this router is SO much better. It comes with two bases and it is very easy to change between the two. It also comes with all the collets and a second base for them.
I love the variable speed and the soft start. It is also incredibly quiet compared to the B&D. I also had no problems whatsoever with it, everything worked perfectly and still does after a year of ownership. It's powerful and it works, and it was a good price.
I would definitely recommend this router.

I got this a couple months ago after reviewing many others. Cannot beat the price for the combo kit.
I have other Hitachi power tools and their quality and ruggedness is good for any level user.
Haven't had enough time on this yet but, so far I can say it is very quiet and has plenty of power, can't wait to mount
it to my Rockler table top when it arrives.

Great router. Easy to use with 1/2" and 1/4" collets, interchangable bases, template guides, and a nice case to store. Very quiet operation with ergonomic handles. Plunge base does seem a little firm. The only thing missing that I wish it came with was an edge guide. Very happy overall.
