Extremely unreliable July 7, 2010 William R. Franklin (Timonium, MD USA) I bought a number of these for the obvious reason of providing emergency lighting in a power failure. Regrettably, most of them were defective and didn't work at all. It would be a useful device were it not for the sloppy manufacturing.
Lasted a year so far June 27, 2010 Ginny Lavender (Fort Worth, Texas USA) Although this is not exactly my idea of the perfect light, it pretty much does the job. The main thing I like about it is that it has the extra outlet, so that even though it covers up both outlets, you still have access to two. That's important when it's placed in a bathroom. The things I don't like are 1) It's bulky--too wide to fit in my hand comfortably 2)the flashlight mode is not very bright, although it's acceptable 3)It doesn't last long enough when the power is out. 4) I would like to have the ability to turn off the night light. 5) I wish it could stand up on its own and act like a lamp.
Even with all those limitations, though, I would still recommend it. It has lasted a year and is still fine. If you read the reviews on other similar lights, they all have limitations and most cover up both outlets.
I just wish they'd improve it a little.
Handy, Unobtrusive, and it Has an Outlet Built In June 4, 2010 Area Woman (Los Angeles, CA) I bought this emergency light because it makes sense. While we rarely have power outages where I live we do have earthquakes from time to time. The experts always warn us to be prepared and a light that switches on automatically when the power dies is something I never thought of having before. I have plenty of flashlights but nothing like this. I hope I never need it.
The LED night light feature is orange and quite bright. It may be too bright for those who want to have one of these in a bedroom. But it's perfect for other areas of a home or apartment. I love that while it's using a socket for charging it also offers you one for your other plug-ins. A smart design.
Intermatic PR3C power failure light works well May 26, 2010 Sam (Townsend, DE United States) The Intermatic PR3C power failure light works fine. The " Three-in-One" description is a bit confusing, but when the power goes off, the light comes on, and it's bright enough for the purpose. When the unit is plugged in and the power is on, it gives off a yellowish light which is not bright enough to function as a night light , so I don't understand what that light is for. The unit only takes up one space in a receptacle, and also has a "pass through" feature , so you can plug any 2 prong plug into the front of the unit, and therefore not lose any net receptacle spaces.
This is a much better unit than the AmerTac lights I also bought.
Great idea, bur failed when put to the test May 23, 2010 KndlPWendl (Jacksonville, FL USA) I bought this about a year ago...we needed it because our basement is pitch black, and needed something that would come on when the power went off, otherwise the kids would be scared to death.
Well, our power went off recently, and guess what? It didn't work. Although the nightlight function (the orange glow) was fine with the power on, the automatic bright light did not work when the power went off. I don't know if it is the built in rechargable battery or something else, but when tested it months ago it was fine. Maybe because it was constantly plugged in? But if it can't be plugged in all the time, what good is it in an emergency when you need it?
I'm going to try to get a free replacement because in my opinion, this is exactly what the function of this is supposed to be, but what confidence can I have in a new one if it can fail after a year when it is really needed?
